Enlarged Deep Cut

Enlarged Deep Cut

This photo of the Enlarged Erie Canal shows the Deep Cut sometime late in the 19th century. A Whipple iron arch bridge crosses the canal, and the rock walls and towpath surface are plainly visible. Images like this are rare but give us a good idea of what the original Deep Cut might have looked like. (Niagara County Historical Society)
