This two-cylinder pump, meant to be operated by two men, was described in 1761 by Englishman John Mortimer in “The Whole Art of Husbandry; Or, the Way of Managing and Improving of Land.” He proposed using this “cheapest and best pumps” to drain excavations of marl pits.
