John Henry Hopkins Little Falls

This remarkable view of the aqueduct, looking west with the adjacent Erie Canal lock in the foreground, was sketched in watercolor by John Henry Hopkins, an Episcopalian bishop who rode a packet boat along the canal less than two weeks after it opened in 1825.
