The Cayuga Marsh scene will be a bird’s-eye view of the original Erie Canal excavation in 1821 or 1822. To begin building the terrain in Terragen, the camera is positioned 400 meters above May’s Point, looking due east. The lines of the Enlarged Erie (left) and Barge Canal (right) flank the fainter outline of the original Erie Canal, which disappears beneath later landscaping as it nears the bottom edge of the frame.
